Comau + PRECISION ROBOTICA for FIRAD (case017)
Firad and Comau: diesel engine components calibration. A robotic solution with Comau Rebel-S6 and Racer-7
Our approach
The first robotic working station features two Comau robots, a Rebel-S6 (Scara family) and a Racer-7 (a 6-axis articulated robot). They work together to perform basic calibration in the final stage of nozzles manufacturing, made of multiple components that have been assembled together.
The station features two pallets: one is for picking raw parts; the other is for picking parts that have gone through a calibration machine. The Rebel-S6 picks a raw piece and a needle – which is a part of the nozzle – and creates a gap on the surface between the nozzle and the body. This operation is very important for the calibration of the injector holder.
Then, the Rebel-S6 picks the body and the needle from the pallet containing raw pieces. The body is then delivered to the measurement device, while the needle is taken to the Racer-7 articulated robot. As the measurement device works with the part, the Racer-7 picks the needle and gets it ready to enter the machinery. At this point, the measurement device transmits the exact desired size to the machine. When the measurement is completed, the processed piece is once again delivered to the previous station, where the Rebel-S6 picks it and re-assembles it with its body.
Improvements are given by automation
Manual machine tending took 35-40 seconds and needed proper security measures together with the related processing time.
The required time has now decreased to 20 seconds, resulting in much higher efficiency.
Today, the cell can process up to 3,000 pieces a day.
About PRECISION ROBOTICA
Precision Robotica builds working bays for loading and unloading with anthropomorphic, Cartesian, portal robots, plants and automated systems. Its know-how makes it possible to create automated systems (including hardware and software) for a wide range of industrial activities. The experience gained in this field led Precision Robotica to build and install approximately 300 robotic systems directly in Italy and abroad, meeting the most diverse production needs. Precision Robotica applications guarantee thousands of work shifts carried out by robots in loading/unloading machine tools, sheet metal stamping, plastic molding, deburring, welding, assembly, painting, gluing cutting and deburring, marking and many others.
