Comau + Comau for MASERATI (case403)
Comau was tasked with building an automated manufacturing process to assemble and finish the front and rear aluminum doors for Maserati’s first SUV manufacturing line.
Our approach
Maserati has teamed up with Comau Robotics to develop an innovative solution based on articulated robots and advanced software applications that fully automates complex bodywork operations with extreme precision. Not only does its advanced flexibility allow the line to be programmed to automatically determine if a component is for the Quattroporte or the Ghibli, the line can produce one, or both, of the two models in a continuous cycle according to production needs.
Everything from welding and assembly of sub-components, and the installation of the Tucker pin, to roller hemming, sequencing with welding and assembly operations are executed with extreme accuracy.
Customer goals - Targeted solutions - Results
Parallel production of multiple models in a continuous cycle without interruption. Total automation.
82 Comau robots
Simultaneous processing of parts and subgroups on models with different components and frame length.
Production capacity of 50,000 luxury vehicles per year.
Optimal cycle time of 316 seconds.
Automatic application of 190 rivets and 243 arc-welded studs for each model.
66 meters of semi-structural adhesive distributed by robots (13 meters laid manually).
