Comau + E6POS for SAN GRATO (case019)
This application shows testing of metal parts casted and machined by San Grato, an Italian company that produces moulded parts for the automotive industry, with a strong interest for the latest hi-tech solutions, such as extrusion, tangential lamination, high frequency hammering, etc.
This application is one among several apps developed by San Grato and E6POS in co-design mode within the framework of Industry 4.0.
At present, we employ a total of 45 Comau NJ robots in plants where E6POS has been working with us to develop a multitude of projects. Regarding this architecture, we have achieved an excellent level of control in the testing phase at both our production sites.
Now, the time has come for field tests inside the plant. Nonetheless, we have to stress that, differently from what is largely believed, the drive towards automation does not imply a disinvestment in human resources. On the contrary, our workforce has increased by 10% since 2016.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The Safemold analysis device is able to trace the outline of a piece or a set of several overlapping elements in 3D, in order to detect the presence or absence of holes or other imperfections in the unrefined components, immediately after they have been extracted from the mold.
The solution is further completed by the Co.Mo.Do hardware-software supervision system, which was designed for process control and product traceability, according to the needs of the leading companies of each sector.
The solution allows operators to focus on specific parts of each piece only, while the remaining checks are carried out by automated systems.
The tasks range from actual production to labeling and product sorting.
E6POS specializes in handling applications and it is particularly active in foundry, machine tending and end-of-line heavy handling. The company has successfully worked in all these sectors with Comau robotics. As Mr. Baronio E6POS CEO, declared, “Comau is incomparable as far as machine characteristics, service and assistance are concerned. In addition to this, I have to mention the excellent value for the money and the fact that the latest models of robots, including Racer, fully meet our expectations as integrators, as well as those of the companies where we install them.”
