Comau + E6POS for SAN GRATO (case004)
Among the other goals that San Grato set to achieve with a co-design project lasting around six months, was the intention to offer its customers something more in terms of service.
This operation is part of the initiatives carried out in the framework of Industry 4.0.
Our approach
On one side, there is Comau, the Turin-based company that is a global leader in robotics and provides the NJ series of articulated robots. On the other side, there is E6POS, the developer of solutions headquartered in Borgosatollo (Brescia), which has managed to conquer the world over the course of its history just like in the best high-tech fairy tales.
The latter has launched the Safemold analysis device, which is able to trace the outline of a piece or a set of several overlapping elements in 3D, in order to obtain information such as the presence or absence of holes or other imperfections in the unrefined components, immediately after they have been extracted from the mold.
The solution is further completed by the Co.Mo.Do hardware-software supervision system, which was designed for process control and product traceability, according to the needs of the leading companies of each sector.
“The solution allows our operators to focus on specific parts of each piece only, while the remaining checks are carried out by automated systems. The tasks range from actual production to labeling and product sorting.”
A different evolution is now available
The available measurement technologies are excellent, but they are mainly designed for ‘clean’ environments, e.g.: plastic molding, instead of burdensome conditions such as those of the foundry that E6POS is able to deal with
The difference from other widespread two and three-dimensional stereoscopic suites is that this one is based on the reading of a laser beam coming from two sources, which is virtually rebuilt in a cloud of points and compared with the original mold.
This is the evolution of a proposal intended for the in-line control of hot stamping pieces, which has been the established industry standard for about two years.
Thanks to its tradition and philosophy, San Grato is indeed deeply focused on innovation.
About E6POS
E6POS specializes in handling applications and it is particularly active in foundry, machine tending and end-of-line heavy handling. The company has successfully worked in all these sectors with Comau robotics. As Mr. Baronio E6POS CEO, declared, “Comau is incomparable as far as machine characteristics, service and assistance are concerned. In addition to this, I have to mention the excellent value for the money and the fact that the latest models of robots, including Racer, fully meet our expectations as integrators, as well as those of the companies where we install them.”
